Someone should make a hand soap with good old cheddar cheese. I can was my hands until the skin nearly comes off before I pick up a piece of my favorite cheddar and sure enough, the cheese finds more dirt and grit.
I like anything dairy even though I am lactose intolerant. At 71 the effect of lactose intolerance is the only fun an old guy can have safely.

Here is another vote for Dawn. I wash up at the kitchen sink because it is right next to the shop. For that ground in grease, I use the handy scotchbrite pad on really dirty areas. So far, my hands are very clean and my wife has not found out that I am using her kitchen sponge on my greasy mitts.

She probably does know and uses that sponge on your coffee cup.

So I took the time and contacted pinerite and asked for a free sample. The president of the company responded back and I told him it was between his product and worx. He offered to send me a free sample of worx too so I could try them both. So both arrived a few days later and I've been using them both for about a week. I will have to say they both are about equal in their cleaning ability for what I do but I just like the texture better with the pinerite. Plus it is way easier to control the amount being dispensed. Pouring worx is like trying to pour flour. So I'm going to be replacing my gritty girl with pinerite is my final solution. I will have to say while it was a simple thing offering to send two free samples and you would think customer service should be that easy it normally isn't. Hats off to pinerite for having their customer service down pat.

Have you tried the GoJo version? It it is a red gell with pumice in a pump jug that is cherry scented. It works great. Has anybody tried both? Any difference?

I have not. A shop I used to rent space from always had Zep on the wall. It always cleaned off all the stuff I could get myself into

Dawn dish detergent works fine without wet-sanding off a layer of skin. For grease/oil, you can actually just rub in some olive oil or vegetable oil first to loosen it up and then use the Dawn to wash it all off. Much easier on your hands, probably cheaper too.

+ a good nail brush. My hands look like a surgeon's even after working on the messiest **** around...

After working in shops for 14 years and still wrenching on the side now, I found good old Dawn dish soap the best. Never dries my hands out and always leaves them smooth. A normal scrub brush for under the nails is all you need. If your hands are real greasy just work the Dawn in for a few minutes. Plus my hands like a good rubbin...

Dawn dish soap. Always works.

I do have a powder dispenser in my garage with some generic pink grit they use in schools. My dad worked at a school district and pulled four new boxes out of the trash for me. Works good, but reminds me of elementary school in the 80s.

i ordered a 4lbs container from pinerite and a soap dispenser. The 4lbs should last me years like my gritty girl did. I'll tell you the customer service from that company is pretty darn right amazing. I called to place my order and asked if they had any sales or free shipping. I told the lady what I wanted to order and she said we don't normally but I'll ask the owner when he comes in. I told her I just wanted to get the order placed and if there wasn't no big deal. Next day the owner calls me and says your order is on the way and we took care of the shipping for you. Who does that?

The dispenser, while definitely not necessary is very cool. It is a really heavy duty build, made from stainless steel, and I'm sure will last my lifetime. The finer the product the less effective it is. Seems like you have to give it a few taps on the side to get it dispense consistently. But maybe that will just work its self out over time. The 4 lbs container could use a little design help. It is a pain trying to get the product out. Don't even think about pouring it. Instead I had to use a small cup and scoop out what I wanted.

I'm certainly happy with the product and would recommend any body else looking for a great powdered hand cleaner to give it a try. Thanks to garage journal members for turning me on to this stuff.

I like the vintage style dispenser! I am thinking of getting a good old #36 dispenser to hang in the basement by the slop sink:

Depends on what is on your hands. I have kept my crew clean without skin problems for 35 years.

Epoxy= hand lotion and paper twice followed by alcohol, then dawn.
Heavy Mechanic grease and grime= Orange pumice, pump any brand.
Genreal dirty and some grease= used dry coffee grounds and dawn.

my hands look great for what they have done.:bounce:
