Power cord repair question

So I've got a 240v window AC unit in my shop, bought it used but it works fine. Although I inspected the cord already I noticed that it had been cut into last night. The cut goes almost all the way through the ground wire on the inside and through the insulation of one of the hot wires. I thought about just cutting it off and putting the plug where the cut was but then the power cord won't reach the outlet. So is my only option to get a replacement power cord and hardwire that in to the unit? Thanks... was trying to avoid trying to buy a new cord but don't wanna hack it together and it not be safe.

Actually LCDI is more similar to an AFCI. Theyre used to prevent fires much like an AFCI but have a different mode of operation/detection...

It detects problems, defects, cuts, breaks, etc in the cord set via a mesh wire that surrounds the conductors...

Well if that's what it was supposed to do then it was a complete failure.... since the unit was running when I noticed the cut. It was such a clean slice that I guess I just didn't see it last time. Cut almost all the way through the ground wire and cut into one of the hots. But... I was wondering what all that tin foil looking stuff was around the conductors.... guess that's part of the "detection" system..
Thanks for the answers.

Yep buy a new cord. Please don't hard-wire as the corded receptacle is considered the disconnecting means for the unit.

I bought it used, the previous owner said about 6 months. It's a model that was sold last year so I'm guessing about a year or so old. And yeah, I'm not going to hardwire.
