Does anyone have a recommendation for a small cigarette lighter inverter?

I love my cobra 2500 watt that I mounted on my truck. However it seems like the smaller cobras have had some pretty rough reviews.

We are renting a car this weekend and the wife decided that her heated blanket was needed for the drive. Thats not a battle I'm willing to take. Its a rental so hardwiring is out.

Cigar lighter has 180 watts, I guess? They usually are on a 15 amp.
Sorry I should have been more clear I meant brand. I know ill be relegated to cigarette lighter style.

I have one of these little guys. When the power goes in the house I run an extension cord from a vehicle to power a lamp, TV, and charge my phone or flashlights. I've used it quite a few times and even for several days at a time. The thing was a great use of 20 bucks. https://www.harborfreight.com/200-w...-modified-sine-wave-power-inverter-61478.html

Mine came with a cig cord, not sure if they still do or not.

I had one I used to run my laptop and printer. Most are fused and you can get them to handle multiple wattages. The only prob. I had with mine was it had a little cooling fan I had to watch out I didn't cover up.

I have about 4-5 of the harbor freight one in regular use using about 5 amps. For the price I've been happy with them. They have two that plug into a cigarette lighter, I get the one that has the coiled cord to the plug, not the one that's attached to the plug.

Rent a car with heated seats? Honestly any of the lighter plug units will be fine. For only running a heated blanket almost all will work without issue unless defective. Issues come from people not know how many amps are needed to power devices and causing failures. Or blowing fuses. I would be willing to bet that you could buy the cheapest one you can find and as long as the blanket doesn't pull more than the inverters rating. It won't be an issue

rent a car with an inverter built in, Many are up to 400 watts. It can't hurt to ask the rental car counter if they can help with that request. You need it for your laptop.

I say best is to go with the 12v blankets posted.... by JRC3

I wouldn't want to deal with the inefficiency of running inverted 120Vac on these inverters. ... most are modified sine wave inverters pretty harsh to electronics, especially those power supplies.... and motors. I have one Modified sine wave ones, original intend was to power the laptop that runs the GPS software on a long drive.... well it frys the AC adapter...

*** If you have to have one, I would get the ones that says Pure Sine Wave... or simulated sine wave ones ( SPWM)

Also a thief is less likely to bust in for a blanket. The wife could also keep the 12v blanket in her car too for those cold mornings. And you'd look like such a caring and thoughtful husband for buying her a dedicated gift. Best 20 bucks you spend.

You can even tell her it was solely your idea. I'll be content just knowing I'm the reason her lap is so warm. :lol_hitti

Last week I took my 88 year old Mom to a Dr appointment. It was cold and cloudy in the 30s. We gave her a 12 volt blanket as a gift a while back. She used it and was very impressed. She suffers from arthritis and doesn't do well if it is cold. Another advantage was not having to turn the heater up so hi it was to hot for me. Money well spent.

So I purchased the HF inverter sadly it wasn't powerful enough to handle the 110 watts of heated blanket.

So I took the advice of a few of you and bought a 12v blanket from Wal-Mart.

She is super excited.

Obviously not if it was the 80 watt continuous with the power plug adapter :wtf:
I purchased the 200/400 which said it could do 150 from a cigarette lighter. I know it going to be pushing it so im not at all surprised.

the 12 volt blankets work really well, we've had one for a long time that my girlfriend keeps in her car but should probably buy another for my car when she's a passenger. We do a lot of sitting in the car waiting for the ferry and your not allowed to run your car in the vehicle waiting area so it can get pretty cold (you have to be in line at least 45 minutes before the ferry leaves), then another 45 minute ride on the boat doesn't help if your cold. I've taken while winter camping in the van and it's handy for warming up the bed before going to sleep (or turning on at night if you get cold).

So you added your own outlet plug because I see it only shown with clips,

I am a bit surprised but guessing maybe 2.0 amp draw though . I also have 400 AC DELCO that has both clips and a 12v plug I ran my standard Milwaukee Multi charger rated draw 2.1 amps, and also my 18v Makita charger 2.6A. with that plugged in to aux outlet no problem :headscrat.

Haven't tried it yet with a rapid charger though, 2.75A but should be ok.

Well anyhow you accomplished what you wanted to do. Have yourself a happy and safe road trip
