I have a sump pump out in my yard and I want to have something that lights up when it is active.

It is in a cistern with the cord running through conduit to a protected GFIC outlet.

I'm hoping to find something simple at the plug end instead of digging it all up and cracking it open to wire something in.

I have a good basic knowledge of electrical work and access to a retired electrician who I'd rather not bother.

He is physically incapable of doing the work but would still try.

If left to my own devices, I'd end up with some ridiculous Rube Goldberg device that would do the job, but probably kill someone.

I'm open to suggestions.

I like Skiff Builders idea, I installed something similar, When My wife's) electric dryer runs (draw current) it operates a switch, that switch starts a fan on the dryers exhaust, since it dumps remotely.
