Hi everyone, kinda new to the forum. Been looking on for awhile and its finally time to just jump in. Im an automotive student and i know that with the right tool, the job gets done faster so my question is, which one should I get? Why? I already have a Fluke DMM if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance!

The Hook has a much higher current limit, and it'll read resistance. I did some reading around before I bought a Power Probe, and a lot of people agreed it was just too damn big, though. Granted you can replace the tip with a lead and whatever probe tip if you need to, but that gets to be tangled mess easily.

I decided on a PP3, and it works well for me. Outside of the power function, I only use it for checking voltage on a bunch of things, like checking fuses quickly. I couldn't see wanting to do the same with resistance very often, usually just a few points and I use the meter. Spend the extra money on a set of interchangeable leads, lead extensions, and a set of probe tips IMO.

I would wait for the PP4 and see how much it's going to be. It has a few neat features the pp3 doesn't. If it's going to be really expensive then go with the PP3. The hook is kind of neat but in my opinion isn't worth the price. I looked into the hook and after reading all I could I decided it wasn't for me. A good meter and a PP3 is a good combo. I use my PP3 mostly for quick testing and sending power to things. But usually I grab my fluke with loadpro leads first.

I've got an original power probe as well as a power probe 3. The original is cool because it's a simple two light (12v/ground) but the think I like most is the thin probe. It's somehwere around the size of a mechanical pencil lead (likely .5mm) and it has an extra long one for harder to reach places. I've had it probably 10 years and it works great.
