Hey guys. Looking at getting a power probe 3 master kit. Are there any better tools that do the same thing? I found it for 194$. I've used one once and liked its ease of use. Figured if I was going to get it I mays well get all the bells and whistles.

That's what I did. I would go that way. I like the short finder as much as the pp3.

I love my PP3. I used it today when I got a code on my project vehicle for a EVAP vent solenoid fault. It worked wonderfully especially when I can apply power to that solenoid and find out it functions.

My question is how have you lived this long without one:) I use mine all the time, first pull on electric unless I need a real DVOM or Scope

It's on my list to get. First time I run into an issue where I need one and it is mine (home guy not a pro).

So i'm going to get the PPKIT03 (the master kit) soon. Does this come with a DVD? I know basically how to use it, but i'm sure the people who made it could teach me more. If not, is the manual clear?

As far as I know, No DVD, BUT the website and YouTube have videos put out as instructions on the different functions and how to use them. With a little searching, there should be more than enough to get you started.

Don't wait any longer! Well maybe just long enough to get one on Ebay and not be gouged by the SO guy. They're less than $100 all day on Ebay

Last week he told me $85 for it. I thought that was a pretty good price, I'd never priced them before but I see now that it's a steal as they are 100+ on Amazon.

I do nothing but electrical an I own one. Do I use it a lot? No. I only use it when I am testing motors acuators etc. I use my meter most often. I also use the load-pro leads a lot. I deal with lots of corroded wires here. I also use the WEAKON HI-vis volt pro and my meter with load-pro leads when looking for voltage drops. The power probe3 is great at what it does but has weaknesses in other areas and techs rely on answers the PP3 gives them when they may be wrong. Its a great tool for finding bad motors, bulbs etc. but when testing more sensitive circuits use your meter. Here is links to the 2 tools I mentioned. Consider these as well if you will be doing electrical troubleshooting on a regular basis.

I'm a generator tech so I think this will be my answer to lamp testing, and start solenoid testing. Itll save me a lot of time troubleshooting.

Make sure they are the same kit. There are a few different PPIII kits. One is basically just the tester. One comes with an assortment of leads and tips and an extension cable. And the "master" kit comes with the short finders. Either way 85 is a decent price just make sure you're comparing apples to apples.

It would be perfect for what you do. It does that type of testing better than anything else.

It was the probe and a couple of lead extensions, and it was a pp3

I use mine as a jumper wire, or for quick voltage tests on basic wiring.

Nice to own but not a replacement for a DVOM as you can't measure Amps or resistance
(Unless you hook a clamp round the tip and power the load).

Good intro tool for auto electrical.

My electrical skills are extreamly week. Got any tips for a newbie? I was impressed with both tool linked but my electrical knowledge is so week that I don't even know what to buy to get started. I have a test light and that's it. I was looking at getting the hook but now I'm kind of thinking that's going to be useless in my hands Lol. Maybe I'll buy a book or watch some YouTube videos.

Absolutely it'll never replace even the most basic of Meters like my fluke 21, but after buying a remote screen model oh my gosh how did I ever live without it.

Buy a decent multi meter asap. The test light has a place but I NEVER use one. Too many sensitive components in todays vehicles. Use your schematics and dont go blindly testing components. A bcm costs a lot to replace. A digital multimeter is the safest tool to use on todays vehicles.

The PP3LS01 comes with a few handy things... stackable leads so you could use a meter with the PP3, and male and female banana jack couplers. And wire piercers if you need them, which probably makes it cheaper than buying all those separately if you need them all.

I don't own too much snap on, just too expensive to me. It's like the chris reeve knives of the tool world. I do own a sebenza, but it's the one and only ill ever own :). I own a 1/4" snap on flex head, and a terminal tool along with some snap on screw drivers. Maybe i'll get the kit, and the camo standalone probe and gift someone the red probe. I never thought of that.

Ohms law and basic automotive electronics theory.

Dan Sullivan's book is pretty good

Scanner Danners YouTube channel

Tinkering around with a DVOM and a few simple circuits

Autoshop101 is good too

Why the hell does anyone want camoflauge tools??

I have enough on my plate keeping track of the hi viz stuff :)

I have a plethora of camo on the truck. My favorite camo tool is my realtree 5ft ladder.

I know I'm bringing up an old that, but I thought this might be the best place to get my question answered. I'm about to start installing a complete new worrying harness in my 68 mustang and I've been considering getting the Power Probe III to use during the install. I was wondering if this tool would be beneficial in this application.
Thanks in advance

I would say yes. I bought a master kit from MAC a couple years ago and love it. I would say you probably do not need the master kit. Look for the power probe itself at the best price you can find and good luck with your harness install.

I like and use the Load Pro that was mentioned above, but I don't think you'd have a whole lot of use for it in a new harness unless you pinch wires or something. I use it to troubleshoot corrosion in older harnesses and plugs.
