I believe the 4 is also automatic, I have the 3 and have had it since it came out, it replaced my first "original" PProbe. My tool truck showed me the hook and 4 trying to get me to upgrade and I honestly prefer my pp3 over the other 2. The simplicity is worth more to me than the added features of the new units. I think if my 3 was to die tomorrow I would replace it with another 3.

I currently own 3 power probe tools, 1 is the pp3, another is the screamin continuity tester {I love this thing}, and the key assist {I work alone in my garage as a hobby, and having my wife climb in the car lifting it and then yelling "crank it" "stop", ect is a PITA, the key tool makes it so simple, and it is such a simple idea}...

Now with my mty vac brake bleeder I can do just about everything alone...

ANYWAY as far as wich one is for you, look at the 3 and then compare it to the features of the 4 and hook, see if you will ever use them...

I am most interested in how intuitive the hook is and I wasn't sure if the 4 also was as intuitive or if it was menu based I can do everything the pp3 can do with my multimeter in my opinion so I am strictly looking for speed. My thought is the speed of the powerprobe is where the benefit will be.

One thing to be aware of is the Hook is mahoooosive ! You will struggle to get it into a tight space.

Agree on the above though the PP3 is perfect for me. The truck had the PP4 recently and it didn't offer me anything new i was interested in.

How can you power components with a multimeter ?

I wont trade my screamin continuity and pp3 for any multi meter {for working on cars}, I can be under a car and touch my pp3 to the solenoid side of a starter and turn the car over, or send a negative to a light that I suspect has a bad ground...
