Power Probe Hook

Has anyone own or have used one of these bad boys. I have a PP3 and use it for its intended purpose. Is this tool that much better? Is it worth it? All I do is automotive electrical and was wondering if this tool is something useful. I have a couple meters and Load Pro leads(AWESOME) PP3, Waekon Voltpro and the Waekon sst42v logic probe as well as some other misc tools in my arsenal. I do electrical diagnostics as well as remote starters, strobes aux lighting gps tracking etc. So would this be worth adding? Pretty good price at tooltopia.com. Lowest I have seen to date.

I haven't used one but from my reading I don't see the value in it over the PPIII. The one thing that is kind of nice is it reads battery voltage and tip voltage and displays them both so you can see any voltage difference. Other then that I really don't see anything special about it. And it's pretty big. A meter and PPIII and a few accessories and I think you're better off then the hook. Unless I've missed something it can do.

Just hook a clamp meter around the spike of your PP3 if you need to know the current draw.

How often do you need 20amp plus supply.

You can do volt drop dead easy with a DVOM

I don't get the hook???

I would most certainly recommend using a title search on this site.

Its been discussed already, most agree that the Hook is overkill and poorly designed in regards to size.

I'd say you have a solid setup with the PP3, the only benefit to the hook might be the selectable functions.

For $700 it would have to perform more than electrical functions for me to buy it, and its not that cute.

Seems to me we have the usual issue where three or so vendors with great ideas do dumb stuff to avoid the others patents.

I did the search and found people picking it apart that have never used it. I was asking again to see if anyone has actually used it. I can get it for much less than $500msrp. I only do electrical and wanted to know if anyone who has used it would recommend it and why

I have one, I must say since adding it to my tool collection I've stopped looking for any other meters. I'm a Reefer Tech, this tool has made diagnoses a dream. The most useful function for me is the reference voltage, I use it for testing sensors, etc.

I don't have one but have read a little about them. They have some interesting features but nothing to justify the price, in my opinion. The hook shows battery voltage and tip voltage, so you can see the difference in voltage of what you're testing and battery voltage. Pretty much a voltage drop test. It also supplies up to 100 amps(in rush) current to power things and will tell you how many amps it's using, ohms, and voltage. Has an adjustable circuit breaker so you can set it for whatever you are working on to be safe. Also has a reference voltage supply that you can adjust 0-5 volts by .5 volt increments and is supposed to be accurate. This would be nice for testing sensors.

It looks like a useful tool but not at the top of my list for the price they charge. Your meter and loadpro and PP3 can do most of what the hook can.

That was the conclusion I came to. That's why I didn't buy it. It can be had for around $300 or less or more depending. If it was smaller I would have pulled the trigger and bought it anyway. Seems pretty useful but just too bulky.

One of the tool trucks stopped by the shop a while back with one for us to look at.

That Hook needs to be put on a slim-fast diet big time; too bulky to get into a lot of tight areas....my first impression.

For the price and excessive girth, I passed. I'm perfectly capable with my PP3, loadpro, and other assorted electrical tools.
