Power Probe Short Finder ECT2000 / Wire Tracer

Does anyone use this and how do you like it? I am not really looking for a "Short" Finder as much as I am looking for a wire pin finder.

My old eyes aren't what they used to be. If I am tracing a
wire from the CKP Sensor to the PCM, I am hoping to be able
to plug into the CKP harness, and then remove the PCM
harness and quickly be able to spot the CKP wire pin with
the tracer. Is this possible? Is there a better tool for
doing this? I know I can use the connector charts, but I
always get confused if I am looking at the male side or the
female side of the connector along with if I am looking at
it for back probing, or the front face.

i received the power probe III kit for Christmas. I have used it quite a bit and love it. I havent tried what your asking but, having used the ECT to trace wires. The "antennae" might be able to narrow your search of the pins, I also think there is a way to use the ECT with the power probe and its built in speaker. If i get time at work tomorrow I will try some experiments and get back to you.

There is one warning on the powerprobe products.Do not use on CAN lines on the CAN cars starting late 2003 and newer with the CAN computer systems.Any test equipment is not to be used,will fry 1 or 2 computers and includes power windows which can smoke the computer for them.

I love this tool, it just won't stop making me money.
You can also adjust the sensitivity on the remote, to narrow down the wires once you get to a plug.

I have the Power Probe III, it came in handy for finding melted wires in a '97 DeVille the other day. What a mess that car was.

Using a wire tracer, short detector, to routinely ID wires in a bundle etc. is begging for some serious trouble.

Old eyes are a pain, Presbyopia, limiting of the focusing range of the lens in your eyes and why bifocals etc get pushed is to blame. Get a pair of work glasses made that focus well about the distance away you work on stuff.
