I'm trying to find out if there is a 12v tester out there that you can just touch to the outside of the wire to detect voltage without piercing the insulation?
I know they make them for AC but i'm not aware of one for DC.
I have a 48 foot flatbed trailer with some lighting issues and do not like the idea of putting holes in the insulation with all of the chemicals they put on the roads this time of the year. Thanks

Liquid electrical tape solves the issue of poked holes, as long as you remember where you pierced the insulation.

A quality clamp meter should be able to test both AC/DC.
