power saw makes bell like noise when cutting. Why?

I have a radial arm saw and it runs smooth and quiet now that I replaced the bearings in the motor. For some reason though once the blade touches the wood it makes a bell like sound in the blade. When I stop the blade and flick the blade with my finger, it is the same sound pitch. Why is this happening as I do not remember such a noise before when using it. I have meticulously squared the blade vertically to the fence, adjusted the heel and squared the cross cut horizontally to the fence as well. I love the saw. I have cross cut, ripped and dadod but for some reason it makes this sound. Also burns the wood on rips. I have checked for alignment and have found no noticeable deviations. Brand new dewalt 40th construction general purpose blade. The avanti worked better and the old rehabed kromedge blades were too agressive and would run at me like crazy.

Probably just the harmonics of the blade. I remember my RAS doing the same thing and the "bell " sound would change with the blade I was using...
You say you don't remember it doing it before the rebuild but now, after that, you are a bit more attentive to the saw and any noises it may make.

It's actually betting to have a ringing sound rather than a whine. It means the blade is cutting smooth and clean.

My radial arm does that as well especially when using the hollow ground planer blade..I think its pretty much normal.

It’s a cheap blade. Solid plate blades ring. Get yourself a nice Freud with laser cut slots and it will be a lot quieter.

as important as this hook angle is, its never on any of the product details when I look at blades on line or in stores or on ebay. Its simply not on the package of most blades. I have seen it occasionally but hardly ever. Why is this?

Because most people buying 10" blades are buying them for table saws. Radial arm saws are way out of fashion (though many here would argue for their merits, and I'm not stepping into that one), so blades are no longer marketed for them. However, if you look around, you will find blades made for sliding miter saws, and those will fit your needs.

Also burns the wood on rips.

I have an early 80's vintage Craftsman radial arm saw (my third), and I get this when my blade is either dull, the rip fence is got a little warp in it (I usually clamp in an extra long fence when using a jig setup, and the overhanging ends get a little squirrelly), or the kickback guide is out of alignment, and the guide wheel ends up nudging the work right or left as it comes out. Does the burn show on both sides of the cut, or only on one side?

i will try zgain and see. i know the inside of the blade is burning the wood. idk about the outside.

the blsde is a dewalt with low hook sngle. 7 deg. it has pic of sliding miter saw on it. thays why i thougjt it would be ggod.

is it possible the pawls are not right? maybe it was turned slighgly in its hole? also there are 5 teeth on one side and 4 on other is tjis normal? also dhould pawl teet go into the kerf? because they do.

i rezd in my ras book that a smaller nlade is qiieter if you dont need depth and is more rigid.

also read there are nlade stiffeners that should hrlp with noise.

question. what was the hook angle on craftsman blades
they sold back in the 60s and 70s when ras were popular? i see no mention of hook angle in any of the bintage cman catalogs. table saw blades seem one and the same with the ras blades in those catalogs

Your saw must have the arbor on the other side, when compared to my Delta raidal arm saws.
Otherwise, that blade is installed backwards.

on craftsmans when ripping the work is fed into the blade so the blade teeth are rotating up. on crosscutting the teeth are rotating down. the splitter is in the back when ripping.

I have a Craftsman 7 1/2" miterbox saw that does the same thing blade rings It's totally normal. Gosh I trimmed off over 2000 sq ft of flooring finishing off my boss's barn store's second floor. Talk about singing as song :D
