I am building a detached garage this summer. I want to run power in a trench to the garage about 60 feet. My power company is extremely flexible about how I go about doing this. I think I want to add an external, pass through lug, 200 amp disconnect next to my meter box, install a 100 amp breaker in the disconnect box and run cable from the 100 amp breaker down a conduit and through the trench to the garage. That part is easy.
My question is, I need to run my main cables off the meter into the disconnect box, the off the feed through lugs BACK into the meter box because my house power is fed through the rear of the existing meter box. This way I don't need to remove the meter box, mess with the existing conduit to my breaker box in the basement, have the power company move their underground feed, etc. Can I do this? Do I need to run one conduit out of the top of the meter box into the disconnect and a second conduit out of the bottom of the disconnect into the meter box, or can I run all 6? cables through one large conduit?
