power to small secondary shop building

I have a small secondary shop 196 sqft; not much required for power; if I need 40amps at the subpanel, what can I pull from the main panel if 240?
The run is 100' , in 1-1/4 conduit.
is 8ga copper plenty? 8-8-8-8
Equipment ground only needs to be 10 AWG and needs to be green, and the neutral has to be white, tape is not permitted to be used grounding and neutral conductors cannot be reidentified unless 4 AWG or larger.

At 196 ft would be considering alum wire. They make a wire just for this type of run. 2 2 2 4. Hook it to a 60 breaker.

Regardless of distance, I would run aluminum, probably 2-2-4-6. At a buck a foot, it will be cheaper than copper and have all the headroom you could want for a small shop.

I agree on the aluminum, but check your codes. In my area, we are not allowed to derate the neutral anymore
