Kept seeing this site when looking for information on google, so I figured I may as well ask here.
I have a 20x30 garage with no power currently, which I want to change
My house meter is "Type D4S". It has two wires coming out, the first to a single panel containing two 100amp, 250v fuses that then runs to my 20kW furnace. The second wire goes to a 100amp, Federal Pacific Stab-Lok panel.
I had a new Federal Pioneer 100amp Stab-Lok panel I had wanted to use in the garage.
However, after an electrician took a quick look, I can apparently only put in a 60amp breaker into my house panel to supply the garage.
The garage will contain an air-compressor, stove, welder, and basic tools. I'm not planning to put in electric heat, however, it would have been nice.
Will 60 amps be enough? Can I still use the 100 amp panel since it will be limited to 60 amps in the house? What size wire? We were going to use Teck 3 when we were thinking 100 amp service, but since it seems I can only do 60 amps, what wire should I use? Is there a way I can still do 100amp service to the garage?
Basically I'm trying to determine my options.
Thanks.
If it matters I'm located in Stonewall, MB.
