Whilst I do have SO toolboxes, they are way too old to include a power tool drawer. I would quite like to be able to store pistol grip style tools as per the picture (stolen from a SO fan FB page…), and I wondered if anyone had seen any after market inserts or racks to enable this sort of thing?

I did once see a SO insert kit for sale on FB marketplace but wasn’t quick enough, and I don’t see them listed on the SO (UK) sales page…

I desperately need one also. Just like that. Thanks.

It won't fit my KRL perfectly due to the shorter depth, but HF will get my money for a few of these. Thinking if I buy two of them I can make it work out in the drawer somehow! Thanks for sharing

i saw something at HF about a week ago for impact storage, it may be a pegboard type mount setup made outta stamped/folded sheet metal.
i was looking for something else and i didnt pay much attention to it. i passed it in the toolbox isle

If you want to part with your money bad enough...

Or, if I wanted to do that, I would buy a piece of plywood and a jig saw... Or saber saw? 🤣
I’m so anti Snap On based on this point, it's unbelievable that people still pop for this stuff. What’s the old saying, "a fool and his money will aways part ways.” Meanwhile, people still talk themselves up/ into thinking this is a good investment. In the military we had a term for this, “Go wrong-stay wrong."

I prefer keeping mine in a double wide upper wall cabinet for ease of charging, storing batteries and accessories, etc. Lots of options on Amazon for wall hanging or shelf types, alot with buy 2 for price of 1. I found you can't make one for the price you can buy several premade for. Just throwing that out there as a posslble option:beer:

Sorry to quote my own post but I downloaded the manual from the HF website. It says that it's for the series 3 - 54" and 72" cabinets only. I have the series 2 - 44" top and bottom and a 15" end cabinet. I'm thinking that it might fit the bottom drawers of either cabinet with some trimming.

Your attitude is clouding your judgement. Just exactly how much do you think you would be able to produce this for? Remember you are paying for a least three injection molds, and if produced in the USA that **** ain't cheap. I'm not a SO fan boy, but have worked in manufacturing long enough to know that they've got some money wrapped up into those tool saddles.

No reason this Craftsman Power Tool Holder (CMST82696) wouldn't fit in a drawer. I imagine the magnets would hold it against the side of the drawer too.

You could also rivet any number of generic power tool racks to the inside of your drawer. E.g.:

Probably want to load it up to check what height to mount it at, but I think it would work just fine.

I like the idea of having my most used cordless tools standing up in a drawer to hopefully take up less room.
I mocked up an idea first out of 3/4” MDF offcuts.

Made this version today to see how I like it.
IMG_4017.jpeg

Installed it along the side of the bottom drawer with space for one more.

Still a few details to work out. Maybe a 2.0 version?

FWIW. I really thought about using the Snap-on holders. I didn’t think they were badly priced.
However, the shipping cost more than doubled the cost of my order!

This photo shows what I dislike about this style of storage, whether horizontal or vertical. All I can see is the back of the tools. The back of my 2 drills, 1/4" impact, and 3/8" impact so look the same, although the bigger hammer drill does stand out a little because of its size.

I have an older craftsman roller cab I got for free that I turned into my mobile cart at work. Been needing a better solution for my power tools as I currently use two of the magnetic ones that hang on the side of the box but inside. I tried the US General in drawer one and it just didn't fit in the drawer right and it would have been way too much effort to modify it to make work in the drawer. I returned that and started looking on here for ideas and found this thread. Bought the snap on holsters and built the rest with some 1/16" steel, some 1/2" angle, a piece of aluminum channel, and a HDPE cutting board for the handle holders. Probably about $120 all said and done including the forstner bit set I got the the plastic.
The anvil on the 1/2" impact sits about 1/8" from the drawer bottom and the back will clear the bottom of the drawer above it by about 1/4"
