Hi every body i have a couple reciprocating saws that i am having issues with maybe somebody has had the same problems or has an idea about the tools to whats wrong with them.

The first one is a Makita reciprocating saw the problem with this one is when you pull the trigger the motor only works in certain potions or angles. it does not work if your trying to cut with the saw with the top facing up if you flip it upside down it works.what could be casing this?

the second one is a Dewalt reciprocating saw the problem with this one is the motor jams.If you shake the saw or sometimes bump it :lol_hitti it will start working again. i mean the motor jams by when pulling the trigger the motor runs but the blade does not move.i have already replaced the brushes on this one and the gear as it was badly worn but the saw still has the problem with the motor /blade jam. it jams when not even trying to cut so there is no fore or binding cuts.

any ideas to either one of these saws to what the problem may be or if anybody has had similar problems what was the fix? thank you in advance for any help available.

Buy a Milwaukee Sawzall made before they became all China made, then you have a real tool, not Black & Decker with the DeWalt name, not real fond of a Makita Recip. saws either.

DeWalt was a well regarded manufacturer of Radial Arm Saws, until B&D decided to use the name for portable power tools because B&D's name was mud, & then they sold off the radial arm saw rights off.

Have you disassembled either of these saws?

The Makita sounds like a loose connection. It might be a tab connector wasn't crimped properly.
It the motor running or humming? If it's running then you've stripped something. If it's humming then you've got something binding it internally.
The best way to find out in both cases is to take them apart. Some times all they need is a good cleaning.

The Makita could also have a broken wire in the power cord, especially where it enters the case. That was the problem with my 1/2" drill.

This. Throw the other one away. And if the Makita turns out to be a tough fix (I doubt it), toss it too. Every brand of tools has its most outstanding model and for recip saws it's the Milwaukee, chinese or not.

AFA the B&D remarks, they are true but B&D had a line of pro tools in the 70's that were every bit as good as any tool. They were a dark brown color and I still use the 3/8ths drill motor I bought then. A lot.

BTW, shouldn't this be posted in the Tools forum?

sound like you got a broken wire in the power cord.
on the other one there may be a piece broken on the shaft that goes back and forth , mine did that and I had to spot weld it back in place.

B&D did make good tools but ran their reputation into the ground which is why we have DeWalt portable power tools.

If they were cordless models I'd say it might be the same as what happened to my cordless Dewalt saw. Ended up having a piece of one of the connectors for the battery being broken. It would work in some positions but not other angles. Pretty easy fix on it, I'd guess it would be a similar problem with a connection in the saw or a broken wire in the cord.
