Power Tool Storage

I hate having my power tools in a drawer. I like what some members do when they build a wood cubicle to hang them upside down by the battery. I am a terrible carpenter, is there a ready made version of this type of cabinet (open in front) that can be mounted to wall deep enough to have drivers, drills and wrenches hung up for ready access?

I use bike/shovel hangers like these from Lowes.

I found one using LOWES Chat: We have the LAST item in-stock at Temecula Lowe's 40390 Winchester Rd
Temecula, CA 92591, Store #0775.

You can order it online and have it delivered to your local Lowes.

Tried to order with no luck. They said its unavailable and discontinued. Too bad it was a great piece. Maybe something like it will come out (in Milwaukee Red!).

I was going to do the whole tool holder things but ended up just built some shelves out of scrap plywood I had...

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=377028

Others posted theirs in that thread too, maybe it will give you some inspiration...

I liked the one with 12 slots. It was well thought out. Unfortunately I am the world's worst carpenter (not to mention no wood tools). That one is more practical and useful than the Kobalt. Most of the ones on esty are not deep enough or not enough slots. I think they also design them for particular brands (Dewalt for example). I have all Milwaukee except for a Porter Cable drill. Thanks for the input!

I bought a few of the tool hangers as well. Not perfect, but gets the job done. Recently changed them to a horizontal layout. The even have a 9" loop one than can hold a Sawzall. Just bend to fit. No snap-track, just screwed to a board.

They are seasonal, at least that way the last 2 years. I waited too long last year and missed out but ended up getting one this year before Christmas. They usually show up in stock before Black Friday and are usually gone by Christmas. Should definitely be a regular item. I would call Kobalt direct at 888-356-2258 and ask them. I got that # from a Lowes customer service rep.

Thank you, I will give that a try.

I considered something like the Kobalt, but as always, there were aspects I wanted to change, and in the end just wanted a homegrown version customized to fit my space. This is what I ended up with. Really can't go wrong w/ the slotted PVC tube route:

I'd totally buy one. Don't need one, but I'm a sucker for red.

One of the reasons I got the Milwaukee 60 inch bench was that it was red! I used to like the Griots garage stuff when they carried Geneva cabinets. I had to send a cabinet back that from them as Christmas (it was junk). I had all kind of problems getting my money back (took a month). Too bad as I have a couple of their Geneva cabinets and they have a perfect red and are good (not great) quality.

I might have to do something like this. I have the Milwaukee Bench with proposed power tool storage in the lower drawer. The tools never fit right and are a pain to put in and out. I like having them mounted high providing easy access.

Just wanted to point out that the Milwaukee Hammer drill does not even fit in the power bench tool drawer.

I bought mine last year, and had the same issue. Kept showing up unavailable. I finally found a store with one left and hurried up and bought it. A few weeks ago I was there and saw a bunch of them in stock again. Of course online it shows as unavailable again.

Lol, I work for Briggs & Stratton, so I grabbed 3 scrap air intake tubes off one of our bigger engines that I've worked on. Normally bolts to the throttle body or the carb. They had an easy mounting pattern and a nice angle on the tube. it worked just about perfect! Though for one of them I did have to make an adapter.

I have a few of these racks up in my low ceiling above my main work bench. It keeps the bench clear and it keeps the tools handy to grab. Chargers are on shallow shelves at chest level. I have 4 of them scattered around the shop.
