Power Trip

Starting the beginning of the new year I kinda went a on a power trip putting together a multi power supply rack and building other power creations.

Started with a HP 6010A 0-200VDC 1000W and a Fluke 0-6000VDC rack mount power supply with no rack. They just sat under the bench and pulled em out every time I wanted to use em, this sucked they are heavy. Finally a day came (about a month ago), I found a rack for em in a surplus auction, a Winsted system 85 single console rack with lots of extra parts Won the bid at $12.50

Assemble how and what I wanted and added some wheels and a wood top, mounted the HP 6010A and sat the Fluke on the bottom shelf. It looks good but it needs more

I installed breakers and a safety relay system with key lock, I have two kids that like to play with everything in my shop. After working on this couple of days I figured it needed some handles to make it easier to move around.

Well I seem to have DC under control but no AC yet couple of years ago I bought a 120VAC 25A variable transformer for 15 bucks cheap could not pass it up and its been sitting since then.

Gathered some parts and mocked a panel up.

Started the panel, it was used so I needed to weld up some holes (I'm cheap sometimes )

Forgot that this is being fully inspected so far so good

Switch, transformer and outlet are all hooked up and its still needs more

.......... that looks like a nice large variac ? what are you using that for ? I have the 30Amp one still sitting ... some hookup info pls would love to see what this can turn out.... I see some shunts as well for the amp meter?

Here is a PDF for the 2500 series, I did a quick search for a 30A one but did not see one.

No Shunts in the pictures, I think what you are seeing is the wires for the power indicator lamp and heat shrink tubing containing a capacitor, resistor, and a diode to power a LED.

I plan on using it for controlling high voltage transformers and for testing equipment. The setup is not done yet need to add the volt and amp meters yet.

just checked the one I got not 30 amp its a 20amp

2 and 4 are your input and 3 is the output

so your two options for the output are:

clockwise is 3 and 4 (voltage goes up as its turned clockwise)
counterclockwise is 3 and 2 (voltage goes up as its turned counterclockwise)

You can take off the motor and put on a regular knob if you want.

Panel is done. Added the amp meter above the switch but I had to move the indicator lamp down to make room for it. A volt meter above the socket. Both meters are vintage. All that needs to be done now is to case it off so little fingers won't touch anything. Still debating if the panel will look better black or leave it not sure yet.
