Nor easter could you give some more info on those shocks , I am going the long arm radius kit on the front of mine just trying to figure out the shock spring thing .

Front or rear? The rear is on commercial truck air bags and I used a standard Napa shock that was the right length. The front will sit on King 2.5 coilovers.

King doesn't make application specific coilovers. It's just a 2.5" Coilover, can be found on their site. Fox also makes them. You can buy em online, I haven't yet. Around $550 a piece with spring.

I was talking the new off road high pressure gas shocks but your right the coil overs would probably last longer .

Couple good reasons. To start off I don't know of a company making a non coil sprung shock capable of carrying 2,000lbs per corner. Second they are at very minimum twice the price, and third the technology in the valving and shock itself would never ever be needed in a truck like this. You're talking valving that is capable of handling cycling going 100mph through the desert. I'm talking 70mph down the freeway.

First off thanks to Keith (383 240z) for taking the time to make yet even more parts for what is now the second truck he's helped me out on. These allow me to standoff the fan side of the magnetic clutch I plan on using.

Tonight I got started in on the steering column. I will pre-answer the inevitable question "Why don't you just buy one" with the answer I have told many people so far during this build.

TOO EASY

If I wanted everything to bolt together lickety split I wouldn't be having near as much fun. So, the base of the column is 2" .250" wall DOM. Once it's cut to length, each end will be counter bored to accept a 1.875" OD bearing that brings the ID down to .750". I am using DD style u joints, so I'll get some cold rolled rod, machine the lands for the set screws, as well as a small groove to accept a two piece collar. This will keep the shaft centered in the column. Overall price will be about the same as just buying a column, with the bonus of telling everyone out there that I made it, along with every other part on this truck...

From experience the front will weigh 3000-3500 pounds (sprung weight).

From there it's a product of the shocks overall travel and the amount of sag one wishes to have.

Sounds about right. Still lots of variables. Which injection pump, which transmission, distribution of weight due to engine placement. Ppump is a good 20-30lb more than VE. My NV5600 weighs over 400lb where a 47RE is under 100.

Prob another 100-150 for cooler, rad, and 6 gallons of water. Plus driver and passenger.

Rolled out to clean the shop...

These 2x8x.1875 rails will be the base of the flatbed. There will be one U bolt around the frame, attached to tabs on either side of the tube, on driver and passenger side. Just to be safe. The gooseneck is not integrated into the flatbed at all, so the only forces will be from the flatbed itself and any load on it. Flatbed will be 7' wide and 8-6" long, with integrated stacks made out of 8x8 square tubing and a miter cut on the tops. Deck is going to be hemlock or white oak stained a dark brown/red. Bergundy??

So we built a 1948 international flat bed truck and used seasoned oak for our beams that ran the length. I think they were 4x6. Here is a photo.

Your truck looks great!

Jeff

Been pretty sick the past week but here's what has been done. Steering column and shaft are machined. Just need to draw a steering wheel and send it to the plasma cutters. Also the start of the clutch/brake pedal box. Probably the most complicated thing on this truck in terms of functionality, adjustability, and space constraint. Also an intake plenum plate I machined.

I had to box the frame on mine to much twisty flexy and a HD cross member under the engine but she runs and drivable now .
