If you were in the market for a power washer would you go electric or gas ? Thinking about getting one would be handy around the ponderosa.

I have a gas from Northern, we have ran it hundreds of hours over the last 12 yrs. or so.
It has a Honda engine . I think it is about 6.5 HP and 2500 PSI. If you never loan it out and never let it run more than 1 or 2 minutes with out spraying water it will last for years.

Depends on what you want to use it for - I have a 4000 psi gas powered beast that is used for the bigger jobs and a lighter duty 1500 psi electric that is used to wash the cars.
I have both. If I could keep one it would be the gas, but for the smaller jobs the electric is the way to go so I would keep the electric. But if you don't have access to an outlet you cant use electric washer so I would again keep the gas.

I switched from electric to gas and wouldn't go back. Although I'm sure it's safe I never liked an electrical cord around water. I just plain didn't like lugging out an extension cord and putting it away.

I have the trigger held down with elecrical tape, let water run through for about 2-3 minutes before cranking and after you shut it off.
Once you buy one NEVER let anyone use it. Period. I let my boss use mine to pressurewash his driveway and he returned it to me telling me it was junk and never worked. I hooked it up to show him that it worked and as I was rolling out the hose he got the stupid look. He thought it was magic that it pumped water without a water supply.
Good thing he has more money than sense, the replacement was quite nice.

Gas. 2500 - 3000 psi range. Preferably Honda engine.

Volume of water (gallons per minute, GPM) is more important than pressure. At least 2.0 GPM !!
- Check the oil in the engine every time you refill the gas tank.
- Check the oil in the pump at least once a year. Change if it looks milky.
- WINTERIZE IT !
A lot depends upon what you want it to do and where you intend to store it.
The one pictured delivers 2 GPM@ 1000# and you can use HOT water, which makes a huge difference if you are cleaning greasy stuff. At my previous shop, it was set up permanently inside, close to the door, so you only had to turn on the water and flip a switch. Very convenient if you wanted to wash off cars after a day out, in winter ****. A 1 1/2HP motor drives it.
The second picture shows a friend's similar set-up being tested with my motor (it leaked).
I also have a 6 1/2HP gas driven unit but find it a hassle to get it out...etc, etc. So, it is not used that much.
Again, don't lend it out!!

I have a couple of those Hypro units, although mine are Red and basically set up similar, Mounted in the Shop with the Hose and switch outside. I also have a Gas unit for remote Powerwashing etc..

That really depends on what you want to use it for. For basic cleaning around the house, such as washing cars, cleaning patio furniture, etc. I would go with electric. They are great for those tasks, and are cheaper and smaller than gas units. For heavier-duty jobs, I would get a gas one. This article should help you narrow down what you need.
