Hey there,

I'm looking for a powered 12v automotive test light. Years ago I saw one made I thought by Mac, or maybe Matco.

It was like your standard test light, except it had a powered circuit that you could actually power up a circuit to test it using the power from the test light.

I've looked around and can't find anything like it. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Thanks

i think ive seen it before, but why not just get a power probe?

I've seen the power probe on ebay but I'm not familiar with the brand, so I thought I would keep looking.

Are you saying the Power Probe's are a good tool? I'm really cautious of anything electrical and not a brand I know.

Mm

power probes are great, However if you dont know what you are doing or arent careful you can fry modules and pcms with it if you power the wrong wire

likewise with the powered test light you would need to be careful... as long as you are careful, the power probe is one of the most handy things to have in certain situations. mine has paid for itself 10 fold and im not a professional tech, but for me (specialty salvage yard) it makes my life so much easier for me to open doors/trunks among other things without any damage elsewhere i.e. cutting the door/trunk latch... id go with the power probe but thats just me

Power Probe 3. Get the kit with the short finder and the gold leads. It's a little pricey but is a super set for electrical troubleshooting. Spend some time with the manuals and your vehicle's wiring diagram and you will have no problems.

I love my power probe III, but definitely watch what your poking around at. One of the techs next to me accidentally hit a TCM wire. $1500 later the truck ran again.
