I have 2 NIB Porter-Cable 501 I think 1/2" drills with keyless chuck. I only need one but have not tried it and I don't know if rebadged or not. A member is welcome to ratchet in on mfg if known and durability.

Thanks, JASTECH

Snap on is the most powerful 1/2" air drill I have used. It rarely bogs down, instead it about rips it out of your hand.

PDR3a (3/8")/PDR5a (1/2")... work well; I used to work in a trailer shop; we drilled steel and aluminum all day long.... the Snap-On's didn't bog down! They worked and did a good job... I would assume CP, IR and other good companies would be excellent as well!

Strange... I don't see them on the Snap-On website anymore; maybe discontinued? The current models; 1/2" look like they maybe Sioux's with a red body (a division of Snap-On), 3/8" look like 3rd party offshore. Anybody know if they discontinued these (PDR3a/5a)?

PDR3A and PDR5A were replaced by the PDR3000 and PDR5000 a year or two ago. The models currently are PDR3000A and PDR5000A and both are made in the USA according to the Snapon website. I own the PDR3A and PDR5A as well as the PDR3000A and all are very capable drills.

I own three PDR3A'a and a PDR5A and I use them daily. The shops has several IR's and they don't last. Period. Florida's don't last. CP's last about as long as the IR's.

The PDR3A and 5A have been moved aside to the Blue Point line in favor of the Sioux sourced PDR3000 and PDR5000. I've used a loaner 5000 for a week. I did not care for it. It's much harder to hang on to and the direction selector is a pain in the ***. I also dislike the lack of an optional protective boot........other than that, it has pleanty of power.

Here's the links to the current 3A and 5A under the Blue Point brand. From what I can tell, same drill with a new handle and COO.

ive had SO pdr 3 and pdr5 for 15 years or so. best air drills i tried.

also have a compact, non reversable drill i bought from MAC for tight spots.
it has absolutely no torque.

SO used to sell an accesory side handle, grab one of those too, you'll thank me. :bounce:

Strange but all my air tools are CP,but I never hear any members mention that name,I am guessing that most GJ members must not like CP tools. From reading most of the posts on this subject I am thinking that IR tools must be very good.

CP is all my dad would buy, but that's been years ago. They all still work too.

I have the 1/2 Snap-On I bought 15-20 years ago. Best air drill ever and the only other air tool (long stroke air hammer) that I've ever owned that was worth the Snap-On money.
