Powering a cd player using generator

At the moment there is no mains power supply, but I have a 9hp 3.8kvA generator that can generate both 240V and 12V DC.
At the moment I only need a cd player to be powered. I have two options:

• a 240V household cd player
• or, a 12V car cd player
  
  

I'm presuming but am not sure that it would use less fuel to generate power for the 12V player than 240V, maybe quieter? is this right?

It sounds like you generator only has a 240 volt twist lock on it for whole house hook up, if you plan on keeping or using the generator for while you can buy or build one of these.

The power output will be the same. The voltage may be higher for teh 240V system but the amps will be much less (proportionally less).

I would use a car stereo as it's probably cheaper/easier to find.

Also, not sure if this is a long term solution but if you're running the generator just to run the CD player then you may consider buying a rechargeable dewalt (or other) radio/cd player just to avoid the cost of fuel.

Why not just run it off a 12v battery... a cd player would be able to run for hours.

Seems like a real waste and noise for a cd player on a generator.

The battery option will be much cheaper to run, especially in the long term. You could even rig a solar charger for the battery.

Without mentioning a 110 outlet I would guess he is in Europe.
But the battery idea is the way to go.
Even with big speakers he should get hours of play time
