Hi

My situation is a bit unique. I have a detached 2 story garage about 75 ft from the house. I have a google mesh network with one node in the loft but no mater where I position the others I get a weak wifi in the outbuilding. I’m not looking for screaming speeds here, my download is 15mbs (although I should soon have Starlink and that should be much better). I am only getting around 1mbs in the garage. Burying a cable is not going to be a lot of fun.

Im wondering if sending Ethernet over the power line connected to the mesh would make a difference? All circuits are on the same meter, I do have insteon lighting that uses the neutral wire for communication. If I could increase it to 5mbs in the garage loft I would be pleased!

I used these for about 5 years and they were satisfactory for most uses. Speed was fine for my needs working from home transferring large files, using the internet and no issue watching video. The only issue I had was momentary connection loss which sometimes didn't happen for days, other times more than once an hour. These were very short duration and were only noticeable when transferring massive files or online phone call causing a second or two interruption.

In defense of the hardware, I was well over the max distance they listed at about 130' by wire with 2 electrical panels (4 breakers) and one split nut connection between the boxes. Load or no load didn't seem to have any effect on the speed or connectivity. In the end the reliability dropped off but I believe it was dues to the hardware failing when it was below freezing in my unheated shop.

I would have to think the capability has improved since I bought mine 6 or 7 years ago.

You might have better luck with P2P wifi. Ubiquiti makes a few low cost options that may work well for you.

This topic as come at least 50 times in the last year or two.

Many of us use a mesh network for large multi level homes, outbuilding, garages and patios etc.
My outbuilding is 100’ from the base, have no problems covering 2 acres with 200MBPS.
That is the same internet speed wired or wireless as it’s my internet supplier cap.

I also am using TP-Link powerline adapters to my shed located about 75' from the house/garage. They pair at almost 700 mbps. I did use wifi prior but found that it was unreliable in severe weather.

Agreed.....

I bought a pair of TP-link powerline adapters years ago.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AWRUIY4/?tag=atomicindus08-20

They did provide better bandwidth than WiFi connection. I no longer have a use for them. You're welcome to them. All I ask is you pay the shipping.
Thanks for the very generous offer. I live in Canada so I think the shipping would be a bit of a reach. I think I will buy a pair from Amazon and if they don’t work I will send them back

If they don't work and you don't want to dig 75ft use wifi. 75ft is trivial. Omnidirectional access point at the house, directional panel at the outbuilding. Doesn't matter if there are trees or anything else in the way that short of a distance.

I have Nano Stations one at the house and one at the shop for the last 8 Years or so, Work well once they are adjusted correctly. I am 100 Ft roughly from one to another. Mesh set up that I had wasn't stable at the shop.

Nanostations work very well for something like this. Their beam is pretty wide so at short distances like this they don't even have to be aimed all that well. I have a site with a rocket on the roof and several nanostations on buildings. The farthest link is probably a half a mile or so and the setup has been very stable for a few years now.

Well, that doesn’t work. They pair fine but the signal won’t reach the loft through the secondary panel. I tried different circuits and no luck. Moved in back to the house and they connect just fine. Any thoughts? I will look at some of the other options suggested.

The adaptor has 3 lights, one for pairing, one to indicate it is connected to a device (I had it connected to a google mesh house wan port at both ends) and a third light that confirms Internet is connected. The third light would not light in the loft but would in the house when I moved it

The Power adapters? I asked above what you ended up getting. If it is power line they need to be on the same electric circuit ( Same side of box ) I am sure there is better wording then what I used.

I got the TP powerline adapters (TP link AV1000). I switched the cables around to the lan connection and I do get a strong connection to the loft (the other one is connected to my switch). The google app shows a strong connection but the speed is quite slow (3mbs). The strange thing is the other wifi mesh node is 3 ft away and it the app says it has a weak connection. If I move the second adapter from the loft to the attached garage on the same side of the box, I get a much better speed. (14 mbs). The wifi in the loft is now between 10-12? The problem with that is I have less coverage in the house now.

I ran the TP adapters from House to Shop 100 FT away and had over 200 MBS if I remember right, the issue I had was getting a outlet in the house where I could get the router hooked up as well with out a lot of cords or running wires. I prefer the Nano stations.
