I picked up a truck load of items being auctioned off by the local Junior College this morning. The most exciting piece was a 1964 Powermatic 143 bandsaw. It was being used in the now defunct electrical lab, so it wasn't beat up on a daily basis. It's got a 3/4hp Baldor motor, and I'm trying to figure out if it's wired for 110 or 220. Here's a shot of the Arrow Hart connection box. Also purchased was a butcher block work table with 4 vises attached, Columbians and Redseals. Unbeknownst to me, was that the 6 lockers below the butcher block were stuffed with all sorts of machine shop bits, chucks etc. My lord this stuff is heavy. The bandsaw has to be a good 400-500 pounds. Any all all info on how to rewire this for 110v will be greatly appreciated.

Is it a two speed model with a high top speed? If so you can friction saw with it. That will allow you to cut hard metal and stainless steel efficiently. I used one in the time frame when that one was made. It was used hard and long with no ill effects. Excellent saw.

Don’t replace the motor. Get a VFD and have almost unlimited speed control.

Sorry I assumed it was a three phase motor. If it is my comment still stands.

Farrier: Yes I felt like Sanford and Son bringing home an entire truck load of treasures. I still have not had a chance to go through it all. But here are some pics of the jewels.
Whitworth: I love the Gumby nickname, that's what it'll be from now on.
MShaw: It is the 143 2-speed model. I'm looking forward to getting it wired up.
WAS Jr: That was my plan going forward if it was a 3 phase, but it's not. I have a couple of Baldor motors but I've never seen one with the red trim. Like new condition, I barely had to wipe it off.
The shot of the interior cubby really surprised me. Stuffed full of Guages, new in the box. I haven't looked at them all yet.
The Micro Flat is really cool. One big hunk of finely machined granite. Great place to set a beer down at the end of the day. Probably 250 pounds or so.

Shiftless: Here is a couple of shots of the Red Seal, it's a No. 53N.
Also shown are the other vises that were mounted on the class workbench.
