Powermatic lathe

I don't have the time, don't have the room, have no way to move it, shouldn't spend the money, and I am moving within a year to places unknown...so why am I considering dropping $350 on this Powermatic variable speed spindle lathe?

Talk me out of it, I beg you. Actually, tell me what the machine can and can't do - I am not familiar with them.

You'll make room for it....you'll find a way to move it...it's only money...

As far as what it can do...it can turn perfectly good pieces of wood into shavings on the floor...but it's very therapeutic.

That's not a bad price at all for that lathe....

Grab it fast that is a very good price, use it and if after a short time if you don't like it sell it before your move, But you will fall in love with it nothing like vintage old iron!

I really don't know much about lathes (though I want to learn). Is a spindle lathe for turning spindles, or is that a reference it its construction?

you are going to spend about $150 for chuck (probably a 1" 8TPI) if it doesn't come with one and can get a starter set of 5 Sorby Chisels at woodcraft or on Amazon. turn it on and make sure the motor runs and that the shaft spins true. If there is play, walk away.

Make them throw in the low speed grinder also pictured. surface the wheels and spend another $100 on a wolverine sharpening system and you will have a nice set up to do spindles, mallets, small - med bowels, posts, pens, handles, cups, toys, etc., etc., etc.

It is a good price.
