Hi all- I recently picked up a Powermatic 15 (15” planer). Has a Powermatic branded 3hp single phase motor in it- the previous owner said it needed a replacement starting capacitor, but I’m not sure what to buy or if the one currently “installed” (he had it apart before) is correct. Owner said machine would run but you had to turn the motor pulley to get it started.

Any help?

Can't read yours. You need to match microfarads, listed as MFD or uF, and voltage rating needs to be the same or higher. Physical size also needs to be considered.

Needing to give it a spin to get started is a common symptom of a bad capacitor

Thanks- hard to see in the photo but in person I read 600mfd 115vac which puzzled me because its a 230v motor.

Sometimes the cap is only connected to only a 120vac start coil so the voltage across it is limited..
