Here's a question: The PP1 has a 6-24V range, but the PP2 and 3 only have 12-24V ranges. I have a couple 6V vehicles - so I need the PP1. Are there major differences/improvements in the PP2 or PP3 that'll I'll want for if I get the PP1? Thanks.

Powerprobe 1 only has red/green LED indicators and the ability to supply B+/Ground.
Powerprobe 2 adds LED lighting to the probe and hi/lo audio tone.
Powerprobe 3 adds a basic voltmeter with ranges and hi/lo/peak to peak indicator, and a basic resistance check (fairly useless)

All three should work on 6V systems, I seem to recall the 3 being advertised as safe for 6-42V systems when it first came out. I don't have a 6V system handy or I'd check for you to make sure.

just a off topic question but are can bus lines ac?

CANbus data lines are digital data, which makes them DC. There is some diagnosis that is useful with a meter set to AC though.

If you can find it cheap get the power probe 3 master kit. it includes all the different probes like the piercing ones come with two of them i use the green one all the time. Also im not sure if you would use it but i got the short circuit finder kits with mine as well. I use mine everyday being an audio installer and ive never even replaced a rocker switch yet.

In my last smog update class the instructor was telling us some cars have CAN resistors that can be replaced should someone smoke one with a PP or jumper wire. Interesting.

I have been considering the "Power Probe Master Combo Kit" for $232.00. This way I can trace all shorts, open/closed and wire traceing made easier. I hope to be rewiring both my Scout II's and CJ5, may use a wire kit but nice to learn the tool before you need it.

pretty sure i have power probe 2, and had the first edition aswell..

i have used 3 and i honestly dont like it. i prefer 2 over 3 any day vs 2 and a fluke. granted yes i can see the upside to 3, but i also know my limits with how accurate it is going to be.

and the differences between 1 and 2 mainly IMO, are the removeable leads and extension wire. but my pp1 is mia at this point..lol
