PPG Aquapon - I Have Questions

I'm new to this forum and joined for the specific purpose of finding a good epoxy floor coating. (Though I think I'll be staying, there's a lot of info here!)
The shop in question is 40 X 40 and has fresh concrete as of last week. Being I do lots of automotive work, a floor coating would make sense. After reading a lot on here, I have settled on PPG Aquapon (Solvent Based). However, I've got some questions.

First, after acid etching, do I need a primer? The PPG distributor said that I did, but I have not seen others use it when coating with Aquapon. Also, what do you recommend as an etcher? I've never coated a garage floor, so any advice that you're willing to offer would be great.

Finally, who's used it? How did it do? Would you recommend it?

Welcome to TGJ. You can do a search for "epoxy" and you will get hundreds of responses and information. Lots to read.

If the manufacturer is telling you to use a primer, why wouldnt you heed their recommendation? If I'm going to go to the trouble of prepping a floor for an expensive coating, the primer if recommended is going to be in the shopping cart. Cheap insurance. Do a search for their spec/tech sheet....it's out there as I remember looking at it when I was considering epoxy type floor coverings.

Do some searching and you will find out several things about epoxy flooring.

1. Grinding is much better than acid etching
2. You should do a primar and a clear topcoat
3. There are much better products for your needs than PPG
4. There are several vendors here that can help you with all your needs and offer great products


Lastly it will always cost more then you think it will.

I found a link to a data sheet on aquapon. I'll admit that asking about the primer was probably not the smartest idea ; If I go with aquapon I'll use it.

This is PPG Aquapon. They had me do a few of the stores locally, with the system.
Nice products, have local rep work with you, he should know the tips.

It's always recommended to follow what the manufacturer suggests. Anything less is usually taking a shortcut to save a few dollars and you end up regretting it later.
