I don't use screwdrivers a lot so to me a screwdriver is a screwdriver, only requirement is fits nice in my hand and is durable. Craftsman and Master force both fit the bill well there for a good price.

I've used a set of the original Craftsman WF screwdrivers for about 30 years now. I still have all of them except I think one Phillips I had to warranty due to camming out. The regulars on these do seem to hold up and function better than the Phillips, but for the money, they have long ago paid for themselves.

I've also got a more recent set of the SK/Craftman Pro screwdrivers, which are a major upgrade to the old standbys. I like them for my workshop but not heavy duty stuff as I don't want to mess 'em up.

I got an HF "Bolstered" heavy duty set with the blue square handles a while back. These are tough as nails and big and I use these for my small engine project work and are fast becoming a favorite. I don't care if they get messed up and are great for hard use. But I can't hurt them. And the tips don't wear. And as chisels, they don't mind. For tough work, I grab these now. I also have an HF Pit Pro set for like $8 recommended on GJ. It is great too but not so heavy duty.

While I know there are many more premium drivers out there, the above has served me well. I probably won't buy any more original Craftsmans but do like the Craftsman Pro set I have, and I now use the HF options for the hard use. - Paul

Yeah I have one of those Dads too. He is always in my garage organizing everything, or fixing and repairing things around my house...and he is 85 years old!

Mechanical everything runs in his blood. In the 1950's he designed and tested the nuclear reactor used on the USS Sargo, the first nuclear submarine on the west coast.

Yeah, I haven't had a problem, either.

I really don't think Western Forge or Pratt-Read have been cutting corners on the drivers.

They are still good, but not as good as the old ones. I've bent the newer ones on a stuck license plate screw. LOL!

Western Forge and Pratt-Read both make much higher-quality drivers than the cheap regular Craftsman screwdrivers. It's silly to say that they're the same thing simply because they're produced by the same supplier (which we don't know for sure anyway). From the picture, they clearly have different tips and shafts from the Craftsmans.

Considering the WF-made Craftsman Professional and Husky Pro screwdrivers have both been discontinued, I welcome a line of durable, affordable, and available USA drivers to fill their place.

If your Craftsman screwdriver has WF on it, it's Western Forge and PR are Pratt-Read. I know for sure that both companies have made Sears Craftsman screwdrivers over the years. Both companies do a lot of private labeling.

Rumor I read that the reason Pratt-read ended up being sold to Ideal was that they ended their contract with Sears when they had finally had enough of breaking even and Sears demand to make the drivers as cheap as possible. Sears was unfortunately the bulk of their business.

They need to color code Metric nut drives, hex drivers and Torx.

They do color code the nut drivers and the hex also is color coded (if you mean t handles).

Torx is an issue. Do the pro ones have the size on the top? I think they do (not sure though) The regular don't but a lot of the lower end stuff don't. Usually I just paint the size on the top of the handle with nail polish, stays on good because I rarely touch the top.

I have the $4.99 HF throwaways for this stuff. I give my Cman screwdrivers a bit more respect.
I'll also go way out on a limb and state that I like the Channel lock Code Blue screwdrivers, they have good ergonomics for my hand and I haven't broken one yet.

Same here I take car of my USA Craftsman drivers almost as much as my Snap On ones.

HF are the beaters. I dont want to break a Craftsman and perhaps get a China one.
