Pre 1945 Vises Paint Types ?

If this topic has been beat to death before, my apologies.

Does anyone know if the older vises were painted with brushed on paint during these years ? Any chance things were sprayed ?

Well Mr Google sez that the first paint sprayer was invented in 1887 but that they did not really come into their own until during WWII. Because of infant technology and cheap labor, I suspect that most vises prior to 1945 were brush painted.
