Pre-built Single Garages

I wanted to get some of the thoughts out there about purchasing one of those wood pre-built single car garages typically advertised as being Amish built. I have a lot with very little road frontage and can't build too close to the neighbors property. Has anyone bought one of those units and what's the smallest size you'd consider (I have in mind a 14' x 28')? Costs for these are pretty minimal running around $4,300 plus $800 +/- for the pad.

seems to me you could build your own for what one of those cost, you can get a complete 2 car garage package for 5-6k pour a foundation and start framing and it'll do more for the value of your home, call your local builder supply house adn get a quote on a package

If I was to build a 14x28 I would consider one with the barn type hip roof. I sure wish I had thought of it before I built my paintshop. All that space in the loft and I find them visualy nice. You can add a implemt storing type roof on one side and it looks good also. Hugh

Thanks for the replies. My first approach was contacting a local lumber yard for their garage kits with pre-formed trusses on a concrete pad. Unfortunatey, local building codes classify this as a "permanent" structure and I don't have the required setback from the neighboring property line. The code enforcement rep for the county had suggested the idea of a pre-built since it doesn't fall under the same building codes and restrictions. I will keep in mind the hip roof design since for a storage option in the loft.

A "barn style" roof is called a gambrel roof. You want that with gable ends.

Not the same as a hip roof.
