Nice builds. My wife and I are considering this type of building for our retirement home on some property we own. I would love to see more pics if you have any especially of how you framed, insulated and finished the interiors.

I assume you went to the blog, if not take a look at the pages I have so far and if you have additional questions I will try to answer. I am going to try to do pictures for each step of the framing, insulation, and finish.

This house will be all wood inside (no sheetrock) which I like and is very low maintenance.

Ok, I went back and rewatched the video of pics and saw what you did this time. My question was how you did the inside of the exterior walls. Looks like you put the Prodex up before the metal siding then just nailed your boards for the finish on the inside directly to the purlins and trimmed it out. Pretty neat, and I love the look. It don't look like you added any other type of insulation anywhere or I just missed it. Is one layer of Prodex enough? Don't seem like much insulation to me. I never heard of that stuff till today so I really don't know anything about it other than what their website says.

Insulation

Actually Galute there are two layers in insulation:

1. One layer between the metal and the girts (2x6 or 2x4) running horizontal that is used to fasten the metal.

2. Another layer was applied the inside of the girts. Then I fastened another 2x4 on the inside of the girts that I used to secure the ponderosa pine. This provided air space which according to mfg is critical.

On the house I am currently building I am thinking of adding a 3rd layer of the insulation under the ponderosa pine and I may also add a layer between the ceiling and the attic insulation. Usually you get one shot at energy efficiency and I want to see if this will further increase the efficiency.

Galute if you p.m. me with a mailing address I will mail you a sample of the stuff to look at and do some experimenting. When I put it in the hot rod one of the things I did was wrap it around halogen work light. I was interested in keeping heat out and that experiment convinced me.
