It will depend totally on the quality of the builder. A quality builder can deliver a prebuilt building equal to the best. A poor builder will deliver a poor quality product.

But, the poor builder would build a poor quality building on site too.

Most places that sell the pre-fab garages have demo models out in their yard for you to go look at. If they don't have a demo they usually have one getting ready for delivery that you can check out. I went the pre-fab route and it was probably the best decision I could have made. You can check out my thread on it here:

I went from no garage to a fully installed, painted, and useable 2 story garage in under 2 days. The cost even with delivery was on par with what it would have been to hire someone to build it on site. I could have built it cheaper myself but would have spent a whole summer doing so.

It has been a little over 2 years since I had the garage installed and the thing is still holding up and looks just like the day they delivered it.

One of my friends had a 28x30 pre-fab built. All the wall panels were built off site and trucked in/crane installed. Monday morning he left for work they were just sipping coffee, he got home at night the building was completely up including doors & windows, sheathed, etc... Tuesday when he got home from work it was completely sided & roofed. Wednesday when he got home the keys to his garage were in his mailbox...100% done.
Price was super competitive too.

I am just wondering if these prebuilt units are suitable for a lift??I need height thats my issue I need 12' or 24' ceilings. So I can put a lift or 2 in my garage for my toys.I am wondering if I need a 1 and half story garage or 2 story and length.Ideally I am considering24x36 if possible or a 32x36 well see i guess my main thing is I need the ceiling height then room for my tools, and snowmobile, atv, ride on mower, motorcycle, jetski. You guys get the idea.Any have any suggestions??

There are different styles of prefab garages. One style is where they build panels offsite then assemble the panels onsite. The other style I have seen is where the entire garage is built in 2 halves, and the roof folds out from each half and they are joined together. For the latter, they tend to have a partial wall between the two bays (although one company could put in a beam but there would still be a post n the center), which in both cases killed it for me because it basically becomes two one car garages. For me, I couldnt get exactly what i wanted prefab so I went stick built.
