Precision Instruments Split Beam TW with Tekton head/internals?

I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to swap in the Tekton rebuild kit for their split beam torque wrenches into a PI split beam torque wrench. I'm finding it annoying/difficult at times to get the swing angle I need to torque some suspension fasteners at times.

The pawl on the Tekton is very, very..... visibly different from what you have above. You have one??? tooth engaged vs 4-5 for Tekton. And they're vastly different shapes.

Based on this, the answer is to buy an Icon 90 tooth flex head :ROFLMAO:

I went thru this on my coarse-*** CDIs trying to fit a Snap On kit into them and that's the conclusion I also came to.

Ah ok, well that *****. I don't have a Tekton, just a 3/8" and 1/2" drive PI. Was hoping I could just order a rebuild kit and make a few mods and swap them in.

The only time I see anyone break out a torque wrench for suspension components is when I'm watching "Sreten" on the YouTube channel M539 Restorations. He's got some high end beamers he works on with an audience watching his every move.

Seriously ???

This is very sad to see…….there are lots of torque specs involved with suspension work.

More mechanics need to be professional by observing the torque specs.

Thanks Fig, I guess I’ll just have to deal with it.
I assumed he was just interested in a side bar about the cars. I’m pretty fastidious about checking the fasteners on my track cars and I like to do the same when working on my normal street cars as well.

Continuing your side bar discussion...

There is nothing wrong with observing proper torque specs, it's always encouraged, but the reality of working in a shop might upset you (based on your post).

I’m aware most folks in commercial shops are pressed for time. Whenever I’ve prepped race cars or worked on aircraft I’ve been careful to torque fasteners and inspect critical fasteners. I almost learned the hard way that shops don’t take this as seriously as oneself might when I found most of the suspension fasteners loose by a significant amount on my track car suspension one day after dropping it off at a shop.

And this is a problem……..

Shame on the shops who want to “get it out the door fast” and skip important steps needed to complete the job the right way.

Shame on them.

Especially since the customer will pay the full amount, book labor, for a half-assed job done quickly so they can fleece the next customer.
