Whats a good precision parts cleaner, kinda like contact cleaner, and then some...

Currently I use this stuff called SDC, but it is no longer made, and its for commercial/industrial use only. I only have a few cans left, so Im looking for a new brand...

It has to...

have no flash point
Leave no residue
preferably minimal odor
Needs to instanly cut grease/oil leaving perfectly clean surface

Thanks

Jim

I use rubbing alcohol for electrical connections and solder prep, but it has fumes and is flammable. It does evaporate quickly though and cuts grease fairly well for me. It is also dirt cheap and available at any grocery store.

What exactly are you gonna use this stuff for?

I use it for alot of things, SDC is also cool because it gets the metal really cold, and it has to flash point either, so its kinda like a ghetto way to cool down metal, but its a littlle $$$. Non flamable is also, key, and it needs to be aerosol.

Ill ave to keep the alcohol in mind though.

CRC also makes a product called QD Contact Cleaner. Which one you actually choose would depend on your intended use.

Roadster, does that stuff also cut grease and oil too?

I used the electronic cleaner to remove all the grease and oil from the connectors on my engine harness when I rebuilt my engine. Haven't tried the contact cleaner.

A little late posting but acetone is an excellent cleaner. Its used to clean aluminum before welding. It leaves no residue. However, it is highly flammable.

Isnt that the stuff they clean concrete with?

Jim
To get rid of oil stains? It works but not as well as a foaming degreaser if the concrete is pourous. I use it to clean oil from work before welding/bondoing/painting/soldering. It goes on and dries very fast. Also, its used as a cleaner when fiberglassing. I used a 50/50 mix of acetone/toulene to soak metal carburetor parts last time i rebuilt mine. It'll eat plastic and rubber if you leave it on too long.

Don't get that stuff on your skin or it'll soak right through...not good for your liver.

Its pretty cheap at Home Depot.

I use it inside. I does have an odor but it doesn't bother me. If gasoline bothers you then you may not like acetone.

I'm willing to bet SDC is mainly made up of acetone in an aerosol form much like carburetor cleaner. I noticed acetone makes metal (an my hands) cold too.

Ill check whats in SDC tommorow, but yeah, it makes things REALLY cold lol. The smell doesnt bother me, just the rest of my family, because I use SDC in the basement all the time, and I dont want to stink up the house.
