Precision Screwdriver Recommendations...?

I'm looking to replace my old & worn out Craftsman precision screwdriver set.

I'm wanting a pretty comprehensive and quality set of Phillips & Slotted tips, these will be used for basic electronics and small hardware purposes. I'm not building a space shuttle or doing micro-electronics work!

And I want to do this for $50 or less!

I have heard great things about Wiha... And was looking at this set:

Anyone have some hands-on time with these?

Or want to recommend another set?

Yeah wera or wiha make awesome stuff. I use far crappier stuff actually (my main set is actually a stanley yellow set) and I really have no complaints. They're not just sitting there, I use them on a lot of stuff (watches, electronics, etc). But yeah would be nice to have a better set or you could get a bit driver set which would be cheaper...I think.:headscrat

Ok, thanks!

If I asked you to recommend one over the other, would you say the Wera or Wiha stuff?

I have used Wiha precision screwdrivers for years with no problems, not one twisted blade. Ken.

Wiha is the way to go. I use mine (PH000, Ph00 mostly) all the time, still look like new.

Wera has better tips in my opinion. Some guys don't like the handles though. Wiha probably has better bang for the buck (slightly cheaper).

Either brand is good enough for professional work...as long as you're using the proper sized driver for the fastener.

Try to check them out in store if you can before you buy them.

What does this mean?
As in you love screwdriver debates?

I am a gunsmith... And have completed 6 armorers courses as well.

I completely agree that nothing beats a quality hollow ground (often hand ground) screwdriver...

It's just that I need precision screwdrivers for electronics work!

I have a Wiha set Ive had almost 6 years and use daily. Ive also had a Snap-On set Ive had for 3 years and use daily. I do not recommend the Snap-On set as the shafts are kinda on the short side.

I have the Felo 240 series set. I bought it about 9 months ago because it was cheap for a German made set...I think I paid $19 on Amazon, the price has gone up by >50%!!! I'm very happy with it but if I was to buy it all over again then I'll go for the Witte 89322 because you get a 7 piece set instead of 6 and the case is bullet proof (rare).

You can't go wrong with Felo, Wera, or Wiha. Take your pick, I don't think any is better than the next. They're all excellent drivers for daily use.

Here's my favorite. Of course it's SK. They were part of a huge screwdriver set I got a few years back. I gave the set to my dad and kept the précisions.

I have seen the set on ebay for under $50 before.

Are those SKs made in France ?

France? I have never heard of sk being made in France. They were part of a huge set that was in an enormous tray. The tray was probably 2x2. It had some torq, flat, phillips, stubbies, and pry bars in the set. I gave the rest of the set to my dad. I can take a pic next time I am down there. These came with that set. The set was made in the USA so I don't think they imported the precisions. I could be wrong but I think sk has been USA their whole time.

Although we only sell German Brands, I hear a lot of good things about moody if you can find them in stock. I like Wiha the best personally. You might like this Wiha Tech set we put together for our electronic repair clients. It has the popular Slotted, Phillips and Torx. Its $45.02.

Here's the one I got from KC Tool Co. So far, so good.

Are the craftsman ones any decent. I just picked up 2 the other day (a 00 & a 000) because I noticed a cheap set I had of no names were twisted. I didn't get a chance to use them yet as I don't do much micro work
These were the ones u buy individual at sears and have a black handle with a different colored spin top

Mildly off topic but have you guys noticed the astronomical price increase of precision screwdrivers in the past year? In some cases prices have increased to almost 100% :shocking:

Here's pricing from about a year ago for comparison: http://toolguyd.com/precision-screwdrivers-roundup/

Not on the **** I would buy.:bounce:

Precision...well, with automotive it's not really necessary, depends on your definition of precision, I suppose. With other electronics it (of course) is but then again I've never had a bad precision screwdriver (except the dollar store sets).

I'm sure people can find old stock on ebay or amazon for around the same price (that it was) on the better stuff. Why would prices go up? Some sort of tariff or corporate greed. Don't really care either way.

Those are the same I have / use.
I first built a complete set of them years ago (9-ish?) and they performed perfectly through many tours in Iraq /Afghanistan. I never twisted a tip on one of them, and I abused them rather frequently...

The ONLY reason I am building a new set... I wanted a more standardized blade length... I like uniform lengths with my precision and Gunsmithing screwdrivers.

But yeah, I loved my craftsman's... And you can pop the colored cap off and store spare hardware inside them!
