I read dozens of posts on precision screwdrivers, looking to see if opinions have changed from Wera and Wiha.

First, I'm in Canada so exchange, shipping and local availability may influence decision.

My Canadian Tire (Mastercraft) set isn't cutting any more.

Recent needs included replacing a watch battery (small Philips), repairing the clip on my Spyderco/Byrd knife (small Torx) and electronics work.

If there is a local supply, maybe buying a small general kit to start is reasonable then adding as necessary for specialty needs. No, I won't be buying the 'master kit' for $400 any time soon!

Or we can ignore the thread because Wera and Wiha are still the selections of choice!

Wiha is still Number 1 IMHO.
I also highly doubt that another brand will really ever change that either...as they have truly engineered the market.

Not sure what your looking for but the most basic set is
(2 Philips and 3 flat) and should accomplish most tasks...

If i have a choice i would take:
1. Turnus (Kukko)
2. Walter Schröder - you can also buy it as Connex, its cheaper
3. PB Swiss
4. Felo, Wera, Witte
7. Unior - you can also buy it from Elora
There is no way to get one of them and there is no Moody's, snap-on tools near? So i give up and buy Wiha or Athlet

Lee Valley Hardware sells the Wera stuff. If you don't live near one, you can still order online. Other than that, pay the ridiculous shipping prices from ebay and get the Wiha ones. I find that Amazon.com is usually quite reasonable with the shipping costs to Canada, so you could try buying from them.

Princess Auto can also, contrary to popular opinion, have some very good tools in the screwdriver department.

I would stay away from ebay, because the global shipping program really gouges us. Shipping from the UK is usually faster and cheaper than from the states, so browse some UK sites.

I like Felo a lot. I also have some Wiha and Wera but the Felos have better handles IMO. I'd really like to try PB Swiss because their steel on their regular-sized screwdrivers is fantastic.
