Preferred trench drain layout?

Hey guys,

Going to be having my concrete floor done this year in my 40x60 and in the planning stages. I would like some input and possible recommendations on what you guys did for drains. I have a 14 wide door that I would like to go in a few feet and then run a 10 ft or so trench drain parallel with the door and then slope towards it. I would be driving a Class 8 semi and front end loader tractor into the building so I am not sure how heavy duty a drain I need, something commercially rated I assume.

Anything that you guys have done in regards to drains that you wish you did or didn't do? Any brands you liked more than others?

Thanks for any input.

To dependably drain water, you need an 1/8" to 1/4" per foot of pitch. Less slope will inevitably result in puddles.

You need a layout that balances drainage over the larger area with slopes to adjacent surfaces. In other words, if you place your drain just inside the door and want to drain a large area to the inside, it will result in a very steep slope to the door side.

I'd skip the trench drain and place a standard floor drain in the center of the area I wanted to drain. For a typical vehicle, I'd create slope in a 10 x 20 area. I'd set the drain an 1 1/4" low providing 1/4' per foot in the short direction and an 1/8" the long way.

If you need to drain a larger area, just drop the grade accordingly. Just remember to reflect you final pitch in the sub grade to maintain a consistent slab thickness.
