Good morning, new to the forum. Tried online research before posting here, can anyone tell me how/if you can date a Prentiss 514/524? I picked one up yesterday in pretty good condition and just curious have no plans of parting with it. Any help appreciated.

Looked vise over well removed the base found no other markings.
You won't find any date codes on your vise. The style and hardware will be what dates it. Once you post enough times to allow for pictures, the mystery will be over immediately. I happen to love Prentiss vises, especially those from the 1920s/30s.

1930s. Looks to be a very nice restoration candidate. Check the thing over really well for cracks and repairs. If you're lucky enough to be free from those things, I'd say that this vise will shine up like brand new.
