Hey guys. I havent been in here in forever because Im a vintage tool addict haha. (not really but kinda) I just picked up a round logo Prentiss bulldog 528 with a broken dynamic jaw. Im trying to find information on it, but Im striking out. Anyone have a good source of info on Prentiss vises?

Ultimately Id like to find another dynamic Jaw for it and fully restore it..Anyone have one by chance??? Thanks!

That repair looks well done. Why not clean it up as is? No harm is displaying a well done repair job IMO.

It would be good to keep that fine old vise out of the scrap melt.
Are you equipped to make new jaws for that one? I see one is missing.

Unfortunately The repair doesnt have full penetration and the jaw was fully busted clean off. Also, up at the jaw, someone ground about 1/4 inch off it at an angle so Id have to build that all up as well. It comes down to a time vs money thing at this point.

I wouldnt scrap it, if I decide not to restore it, Id sell it. I am equipped to make the jaws but a friend of mine already pointed me to a company he uses for jaws. They just under went new ownership so I have to wait to order them.

Believe it or not, you stand decent odds of finding a replacement dynamic jaw for that particular vise via a complete donor. Had this vise been one size smaller I would have been able to help you out because I have a few spare Prentiss parts floating around. Don't give up looking for a donor vise because I can see that you also need a jaw pad on the vise body and who knows what else.

I know of a company that makes new jaw pads, so thats not an issue. WORST case, Ill machine them myself. Hopefully youre right that I can find a dynamic side. Otherwise its a complete and operational vise that will work nicely in my fab shop

The round logo Prentiss vises seem to be one of the types that can be found all over the country. My money says that if you look, you'll find a donor.

Meanwhile, you have yourself a welding table bench vise.

good to know, thank you! I just got home from guys a Chas Parker 288 1/2. It was in the same family since new and has been in storage for decades. After 3 generations, the guys son called it a "chunk of metal" so Im now the caretaker. I need to machine the pins for the pipe jaws and the swivel base handle, otherwise its complete and just needs some grease and paint.

I'm sorry but without pictures it's just a rumor.
