Guys - found this Prentiss 95 vise on craigslist. He is asking $75 for it.

Dont really need it - have a newer 5" HF that does most everything I need, and a wilton Shop king that I plan to fix up one of these days.

any thoughts on this one? value?

thanks!

What is he asking? That is one of the easier fixes for a busted vise, BUT, if that was abused, what else is wrong with it?

That's too bad. There was a Prentiss 95 on Ebay last year that looked like a million dollars from 20 feet. The owner had done a base coat/clear coat in gloss black and polished up the cracked slide to a mirror. Yep....big honking crack for at least half the length. Big vises usually were factory/fab shop vises and got used as anvils. The handles got cheaters on them and the main nuts are cracked or the lead screw threads are like a knife edge from wear. Then you have the opposite end of the spectrum...the little vises. Home owners beat the snot out of them because they were too small for the job to start with. So these always have bent swivel base lock handles and main handles. Okay...rant over.....I just get sad when I see old iron getting weighed for the last sale.

Nascent experience tells me...not worth it with that huge crack. Offer $25 and then find a local shop to weld it up for you and grind it back smooth.

Edit: Zoomie told me this is common on Prentiss'.
