I am going to look at this vise tomorrow, seller did not put much information in the listing. Can anyone tell me more about it? Decent vise? Any reason to think it is not a real Prentiss?

No fakes i know of looks like a nice vise besides of what appears to be brazing on the jaws. Unless the gold colored stuff is rust. And if it is brazing that means its been repaired and if so I wouldn't pay over 30 bucks personally.

Check the rear slide for crack, pretty common with prentiss vises. It looks like a #51 which is stationary model. Hard to tell for sure. Swivel models have 90's numbering. I love the graffiti style lettering on those ones.

Those jaws look beat...as it sits it's pretty unusable. Might be able to grind it all off and replace the jaws.

Even zoomed in I don't think the top of the jaws look beat and no telling on the faces, since it is closed. The spots just look like paint to me, not weld/braze. the blurry condition of the pics doesn't help of course.

I don't think it looks that bad, and would definitely go look at it in person.

it's gonna be way heavier duty than anything they sell in any of the stores (except Grainger). Check it good for cracks, welds, or repairs...

I saw that ad yesterday and told the guy I was interested in it around 5pm last night. I just went to look at it and ended up taking it home with me for $20. It is a #53. The pictures from the ad are very deceiving. The gold looking stuff was just some minor rust, not brazing. No slide crack or any repairs. Still lots of life left in it and cant wait to get her cleaned up and put to use as my first vise. I do apologize if i bought it out from under you. I just joined the forum a few days ago and saw your post just now.

Haha... That happens more often than you would think around here.

Looks like it's in pretty good shape, just need a little cleaning up.
