First time poster here...but have read threads on the forum many times in the past.
I'm planning to coat a new garage floor and have one question, but first, here are the facts.
New home build with a three car garage (700sf); the slab will be ready for coating in June.
I know the builder is using zip-strip for the contraction/control joints.
My plan is to hire a professional coating company to do the installation with a full flake system.
I've read everything I could find and think I know what the answer is, but am looking for confirmation from an expert.
I believe the best approach to prepping a slab that has zip strip in it, would be to cut the cracks after they have appeared, fill the crack with something like the Legacy 100 product, then grind (by installer) prior to coating. I have talked to three established companies and none of them have mentioned cutting the cracks and filling...but I haven't specifically asked.
If the installers don't want, or think, this is necessary; I have no problem doing it myself.
I coated my existing small two car garage 20 years ago myself with an off the shelf Rustoleum garage flooring product from Home Depot, and it's still going strong...BUT...I can clearly see where the zip-strip contraction joints are now.
Any opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated.
