Hi all. Planning to epoxy coat my 400 sq/ft garage this summer, and was wondering if its possible to prep the floor weeks prior to coating? Reason being is my time is limited, I cant move everything out of the garage and park on the street for 7 days+ while I profile, clean, dry, then coat, and clear.

I was planning to rent a floor polisher and diamabrush, and profile the floor first.
Then maybe a few weeks later, pressure wash, sweep, etc and begin laying down the epoxy after the floor dries.

Would there be any issues with this? Or does the concrete need to be profiled immediately prior to cleaning and coating?

You don't need to pressure wash after grinding unless you wet grind. If you have any heavy oil stains then you need to address those before you grind. It's not a problem getting your floor ready in stages. Just make sure that when you are ready to go that there is not any dust or debris on the concrete.

Thanks for the info. I think I have already taken care of any stains at this point. Just need to get the right profile down. So once I grind, but before I actually lay the expoy, I just need to make sure I blow it out, vacuum, etc really well. Got it. Thanks!

I used to get those pod things delivered for my customers ( at their expense) Now I just rent a Uhaul to hold all their stuff while the garage gets done. IF needed it can be moved. but more often than not, it just sits there. The daily rental cost is cheap!

I personally dont like to wait after grinding. I want to coat it right away. There is too much potential to get dirty. ( dirty paws. muddy feet. Stepping in gas at the gas station. gum.) Why take a chance....

As previously mentioned by other posters...it always a good idea to clean/degrease prior to starting any surface preparation processes.

I would do the concrete prep work just prior to the application to prevent surface contamination. Be sure you vacuum any light dust prior to your coating application?

good luck!

If you do diamond grind week prior, be sure that nothing gets onto the floor, and you do not drive on the floor, in the time between. Any dust, debris, even walking on the ground floor can cause a contamination issue.
