Prescription (RX) Safety Glasses?

I am nearsighted and without my glasses I wouldn't be able to do much. I tried looking for some RX Safety glasses awhile back and could only find a handful of wire frame ones. Does anyone make "nice" looking rx-able safety glasses? I'm also a cyclist so I ended up getting these serfas to use as safety glasses (although they are not certified for safety glass use).

Does anyone have any suggestions for frames? I'm almost tempted to just get a pair of RX Oakleys...

I use Oakley Canteens with transition lenses, which I love. Beware these glasses exceed the Ansi z87.2 rating, however they are not stamped because they exceed the rating. This causes alot a problems with employers, because they are not stamped.

You can go online to Amazon and get bifocal Dewalt safety glasses that are decent. I have a pair that I like, but bought a couple of look alikes that are terrible. Otherwise you can go to a optomitrist and find safety rated frames, and in different styles.

Bingo, the right answer. If you want prescription glasses, you go to your eye doctor. I wear safety prescription glasses on my job and all the time at home. Just tell your eye doctor you need OSHA approved glasses, and they will make up the lenses to fit just about any frame they have in the store.

Yes you would be wise to do that through your optometrist, however, safety lenses can only be used in safety frames.

While deployed to Iraq I was required to wear ballistic eyewear. Army issue is a pair of ESS's with a prescription insert, or equivalent. Crappy at best, instead I purchased a pair of Oakley Half Jacket XLJ's, they have a wider coverage area, and have the prescription all the way through the lens much like a regular pair of glasses, the major difference is that they curve around your face so to speak, so you actually have some peripheral vision. You can get lenses in any color they make, as well as polarized or unpolarized, so when you're out cycling you can have a nice-look and effective piece of equipment.

you can get all types of safety glasses. I wear only safety glasses and most people cant tell the difference. I have the removable side shields and remove them when i'm not at work. Most optical stores have a nice variety of safety glasses and their fairly cheap too. my last pair was for single vision, dark glass lenses and they cost me right at $100. it pays to shop around here.

Both are much cheaper than local and offer services others will say are not possible.

All optometrist make up safety glasses with safety frames. The ones that I get, I get my eye prescription from my eye doctor, but the the shop contracts through another company t make them up. They will make them in Straight, bi's, and tri's with either detachable shields or permament shields

Correct. Around here, they will NOT put safety lenses in non- rated frames.
