Prescription Safety Glasses?

So, it's time to get a new Rx for my work safety glasses. While I'm at it this time, I think I want to trade in my existing frames.... which ****.

Got any suggestions? hopefully something not too heavy. The ones I have slip off my ears when sweaty. OTOH I've had pairs that had hooks for behind the ears and they make your ears sore after a while... so something in-between I guess.

Also - got an on-line source?

Try plastic frames. I live in West Texas, and had a lot of problems with the metal frames slipping during the hot summers. I have been wearing plastic frames for about 10 yrs.

I get mine from my local optometrist office and were them all the time. When I slip the side shields off they look and feel like regular glasses. I only put the shields on when I'm at a site that requires them.

ess safety glasses are the way i went. plastic frames z87.1+ rated.

work good for me. dont slip on my face when i sweat heavily at work. ive had them fog but not under any normal circumstances.

I try for the smallest diameter (if it was a circle, you know) lenses I can find. Just a personal preference. If too large they get heavy and want to ride down.

These are actually very affordable from Wal Mart. But another vote for Zenni Optical if you are going the online route. I have spent between $10 and $400 on glasses before, and the best I've had were the $10 pair from Zenni Optical.

Interesting - I drive past there to work. I think my current ones came from a TSO in Austin. They had exactly 2 styles - both 50's nerdy.

I'll look into the other suggestions too.

I just ordered new shades. I get the polycarbonate lenses which are impact resistant. I picked a wrap around style frame (RayBan) and I got trifocals. I just can't work with bi's now as in close work i can't get my head in position to see what I need to. having the top and bottom magnification will be a wonder...I hope. Life is a humbling experience!

I've been wearing glasses most of my life and safety gasses for about 3/4 of it. I stopped even trying to find prescription safety glasses. In my experience they just plain ****. I have a pair on my desk with the side shields in case EHS ever insists I wear them. But I opted for either over the glasses safety glasses, I like Bolle the best, or I wear a face shield. For my regular glass I just go to the local optometrist so I can try them on.

While it's not available to everybody, Oakley offers a huge discount on both regular, and prescription eyewear to first responders, military, etc under their US Standard Issue brand. I started wearing glasses/contacts in my 30s and have been incredibly impressed with the comfort, and optics I've gotten from Oakley. In the past few years they've added transition/photochromic prescription lenses so you can get them that go from clear to dark saving having multiple pairs.

When I got my first pair I happened to show them to my eye doc and he spent several minutes examining them, and had nothing but very positive comments about the quality of the lenses. He also said the price was about 1/3rd of normal retail.

I don't mention this as a brag, but in the hopes it might help out someone in the military or a first responder who isn't aware the program exists.

I have used the top and bottom magnifying safety glasses for years at work. They are just off the shelf from Grainger but they great when closeup work is overhead. In my job I spent more time looking up than anything.

Wiley-X. ANSI Z87.2. I've had several pairs, and they are the most comfortable glasses I've ever found. They last better than Oakley, they're cheaper, they're lighter, and more comfortable.

Looking at their web site they do not appear to be ANSI approved so they do not look like they are what OSHA would call safety glasses. Unless there is another line I did not see.

I recently got the Wiley x frames with safety lenses they are blended lenses and also turn to sun glasses as well I find them very comfortable and they have the strap so they dont hit the floor 10 times a day I have had them for a couple months and they are better than any other I have had so far . I do think that they mess with your depth perception , however im not sure if its because they are curved lenses or the fact that this is the first time for blended lenses as I am new to the whole bifocal thing
