Preset torque wrenches

I'm new to preset torque wrenches, with adjustable click type torque wrenches the spring can weaken when they aren't turned down when not in use... Split beam torque wrenches eliminate this problem, but are the preset torque wrenches basically a calibrated split beam or a different style all together? Just wondering what the longevity of these are and if they have to be calibrated?

Any torque wrench is going to need calibrated at some point. You have to decide how critical the item being torqued really is. The main use of a preset torque wrench is production environments where the engineer doesn't want the operator dicking with something they shouldn't. From my time in the automotive manufacturing world I can tell you even those wrenches we checked regularly anywhere from every 8 hours to twice an hour.

I used them in the Military, but then they went to PME on a regular basis.

Frankly I don't understand the obsession with torque wrenches (but then again, at this forum, I do understand obsessions) :)

If they are not exact they are usually pretty close, and for most of our lives, most of us managed to do successful mechanical work, without even using one.

And now I see after I bought it the price jumped to $463...

Interesting

You likely bought the last one from an "authorized seller." Be careful, for that kind of price difference you may very well have gotten a counterfeit. I've read a lot of complaints on Amazon over counterfeit products being sold.

I was watching this item for a few weeks. It's not from another seller it says it's from amazon.ca (with prime shipping available). Initially it said they have 3 left in stock (now says 2), when I saved the item to my wish list the price was $300. Then it went to $250, $200 and finally to $158. That price is awesome because everywhere else I've seen online is like $350 usd or more. It will be interesting to see if it is counterfeit, amazon has always been awesome with rectifying any issues I've had so I'm not really concerned.

Amazon does this with their pricing all the time, Its usually somethin with qty =2 and then 1 sells and they go from 20-50% of retail back up to normal price. who knows why they do it, it might be machine learning to see where the market price/depth really is on a product that hasn't been moving. heck they take any loss as a cost of market reasearch.

that's not to say be on the lookout for 3rd part scams, but this pricing behaviour is not indicative of that when it deals from amazon directly.
