Anyone use one of these?

I have a 20 ton press and always making some type of bracket or bending aluminum (mostly) and steel. I usually have to run out and use someone's elses brake.

I have the swag offroad one, we use it for a high school robotics club with a 20 ton HF press. It works great, however you will not get very tight radiuses unless you use shims to do so. Saying that, we have bent up to 3/8 steel and 1/4 aluminum past 90 degrees.

It works great.

This one gets good reviews as well.

If you are using a Harbor Freight press think about changing out the cast arbor plates for better quality ones

The Swag offroad version is well regarded over on Pirate4x4 and they do some crazy fab work so I generally trust their opinions.

Regarding the cast plates from HF, I wouldn't just think about changing them, I would say you should change them out regardless. Another broken plate, big boom, flying shrapnel event reported just the other day on Pirate, I believe. Change them. SWAG sells them also but I found a better deal locally for some scrap 1" plate that will work.
Cheers,

i've built a few variations of those press brake attachments for my 20 ton, and they all work awesome.

look up some tonnage charts on google, decide what thickness and length you'll mostly bend, and built the V die opening based on that. realize the closer the V die opening, the nicer and tighter the bend, but the more tonnage you'll need to bend a given piece of material.

I have the Swag Brake. Bought the kit and assembled it. Don't know what I'd do without it now. It doesn't do very tight radii, as mentioned above, but it does do 90 degree bends very consistantly. Bending 5/8th's plate is no problem.
I will be ordering the "finger brake" add on kit shortly.

Astroracer, I put three pices of progressively smaller angle iron in the base and now get tight bends. You have to grind a little off the sharp back to get them to "sleep" together but they fit tight and work great.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to do that. I have a few small press blocks that I use when doing smaller/thinner parts and they work well and end up with nice tight radii.

I bought one a few weeks ago while it was on sale and used a coupon card. I had it shipped to a store so there no shipping involved.

I had no idea it came with four press plates. That's $100 worth of press plates! Definitely changes the value equation..

A little grimy/grungy but well made and works well on the few items I played around with.....

I have a second-hand HF brake/roller/shear. But more often, I use this little set:

Where did you get that? Looks similar to what I use (below) but yours has a replaceable insert. Are there different inserts available? Thanks.
