Pressure testing pex question????????

My tubing says 100psi at 180 F. Ive held 65 psi for the past 2 hours. I don't know what psi I should be at and how long. What is the process? Thanks. -MATT

65psi is fine for a test. What you need to watch for is how much it drops in a given period. This time of year, I wouldn't sweat a 3-5lb. drop overnite (temp. related).
I would test it for a 24 hr period minimum.

You're good. The stamped rating on the tubing indicates what it is rated to. Meaning you could use it at 100psi all day long. The tubing is probably capable of testing at 150-200psi however there is no reason for you to go much higher than your normal operating pressure. Most city water systems operate at less than 70psi. Well pumps are normally set to cut-off at either 40psi or 60psi. Fifteen minutes with zero pressure drop is plenty of time on small tubing for test duration. It's important to note these ratings are hydrostatic pressure, not air pressure.

I'm making the assumption that you're testing the pex for use in a concrete slab? If not, you can ignore the rest of my note.

If so, I left mine pressurized with the gage visible for the concrete guy to see while he poured the slab (I was not present for the pour).

If you're having someone else pour your concrete, point out the gage and the current pressure. Make sure he realizes it's holding pressure now and that you expect it to still be holding pressure when he is finished.

Both contractors who did my two shops wanted me to leave the system pressurized. They kept an eye on it during the pour. They said if a pressure drop was noticed, they knew there was a problem and they'd locate and isolate the leak.

You shouldn't have anything to worry about as pex is pretty tough stuff and you really have to try hard to damage it. Keeping it pressurized during the pour is just a good precaution and provides peace of mind. If a careless contractor happens to cut a tube when it's not pressurized, you won't know until it's too late.
